Transcript Beta

Thank you for your interest in our AI transcript and summary features beta. Marco Polo is testing these features with a small group of users. Inclusion in the test gives users the opportunity to engage with their Polo messages in different ways, including reading them in  transcript or summary, or watching them with closed captions. All three features are generated using AI.

Our company always approaches the testing of new features with transparency and a deep respect for your privacy. This page will answer questions you might have about the new features being tested. If this page does not answer yours, do not hesitate to contact us for more information.

1. Are my Polos still private?

First and foremost, our respect for your privacy has not changed. Just like your Polos, all transcripts and summaries are private. All Polo transcripts and Polo summaries are generated by AI language processing algorithms. We don’t read the transcripts or summaries the AI generates unless you ask us to troubleshoot a specific issue with a transcript or summary. Marco Polo uses third-party AI technology in our AI features but your Polos are not used to train the AI. We take all technology partnerships very seriously to ensure our privacy standards are upheld and the data of our users is protected.

2. What are AI transcripts and summaries?

Transcripts, summaries, and closed captions of Polos are generated by language processing algorithms. The AI interprets the Polos, processes them through algorithms (pattern recognition and language understanding), and then converts them into text. AI Polo summaries are generated from the transcripts. The AI takes the written text and identifies the most important components of it through the use of algorithms.

3. Are these features permanent?

All AI features currently in testing may or may not become permanent features of the app. Currently, a small group of users are testing these features for our team. Their experience will help us determine if these features will add value to the experience of users of the app. So if you are using them and like them, tell us! And if you don’t or you have concerns, please tell us!

4. Why are you testing these features?

At Marco Polo, our purpose is to help you feel close to the people who matter most. That’s why it’s so important that we test features before we release them to our entire community. Our rigorous testing program helps ensure that all new features add value to your experience and, even more importantly, align with our purpose.

5. Where is AI being used by Marco Polo?

If you have the AI transcript, summary, and closed caption features, all employ AI. For those accounts that have these features, all Polos will be transcribed by the AI and a summary will be generated. Transcripts and summaries are generated when the Polo is received and not when you click the transcript or summary feature. This way, transcripts and summaries are available on demand.

Users can access these features on all Polos. Simply open a chat and tap on a Polo in the storyline. The features are located at the bottom of each Polo. For a closed caption on your Polo, tap “CC” on the left-side of the bar.

For a transcript or summary, click on the document icon on the right side of the bar. The summary will appear over your Polo. To view the transcript, tap the “View transcript” button.

6. Were these AI models created by Marco Polo?

Marco Polo uses third-party AI technology in our AI features. Your Polos are not used to train the AI models. We take all technology partnerships very seriously to ensure our privacy standards are upheld and the data of our users is protected. We do not sell your data. Not now. Not ever.

7. How can I turn off the push notifications with transcripts?

If you have the AI Polo transcript and summary feature on your app, you will receive previews of your transcripts from the app as push notifications. If you wish to turn off these push notifications, you can do so by navigating to Settings > Notifications > AI Transcripts and toggling off Push Notifications. Turning off transcript push notifications will not disable the transcript and summary feature.
