How to use transcripts, summaries, and closed captioning
We believe in the power of video-first communication for all your relationships. Seeing faces, hearing tone of voice, being in the moment when you have a moment – that’s real connection. We also know, you can fall behind, sometimes multiple Polos behind, especially in your most active chats and groups.
Our suite of new features are designed to help you stay connected in your important conversations. They can help you catch up when you fall behind; they can help you watch in noisy places or when you don’t have your headphones; they can help you look back at what was said so you don’t forget the important stuff. We build technology that helps you feel close because that’s our purpose ❤️
If core Marco Polo is all you need to feel close to your people, we love that! But, if you’ve ever fallen behind and don’t know how to catch up, now you can.
To use our closed captioning feature, you will tap into the chat for the person or group that you'd like to interact with. Once there, you can tap on the Polo you’d like to play and once it’s playing, tap on the "cc" icon to turn on closed captioning. To toggle it off, you'll simply tap on "cc" once more. If it's in use, it will be highlighted in white.
To use our transcript feature you will tap into the chat for the person or group that you'd like to interact with. Once there, you can tap on a Polo to play followed by tapping on the "Transcript^" button located in the center of the chat near the storyline. Once you tap the "Transcript^" button, a new screen will appear.

In this picture, you will see a transcript. While playing a Polo you can view the transcript and follow along with the words as they are highlighted in blue.
While viewing this screen, you can choose to tap on a word that is showing in the transcript area and it will take you to that spot within the Polo while it's playing. While viewing the transcript, the Polo will still play visually on the thumbnail below.
To go back to your regular view of your chat, you can tap on the "x" in the top left corner (this will stop the playback of the Polo) or you can simply tap the "Transcript" icon again.
Note: You can also select the summary in this view.
Your home screen where all of your chats are accessible has a new icon that will lead you to more options including transcripts and summaries.
Located to the right of a chat you can see our new summary and chat options icon 🙂
When tapping on our new summary and chat options icon, you will be taken to this screen 👇
From this screen, you can see the summary of any unwatched Polo and select a variety of options for that chat!
These options include:
- View the transcript
- Mute playback audio (Polo will play silently and enable closed captions)
- Play the Polo
- Start a group chat (if 1 on 1 chat)
- Edit chat info (if Group or Sharecast)
- Mark it as a favorite
- Mark as watched
- If you select “More,” you can:
- Set the chat tile
- Report
- Block/Delete chat
- Mute notifications within group chats
Note: If a Polo is short, there won’t be a summary provided. You will only see the transcript for that Polo.
